West Mercia Police Probe Rape Near Castle Green Cemetery

Police have launched an investigation after a woman in her 20s was allegedly raped in broad daylight near a graveyard in Telford, Shropshire, on Christmas Eve.

The alleged attack took place in woodland near Castle Green Cemetery, Ironbridge, between 9.45am and 11.25am on 24 December 2025.

West Mercia Police confirmed reports were received on Monday and said officers are urgently seeking information to identify the suspect. The man is described as white, around 5ft 10in tall, with short dark hair, wearing dark jeans and a black coat at the time of the incident.

Detective Constable Victoria Periton said the victim is receiving support from specialist officers. She added:

“We understand this news may be unsettling for the local community. Please be assured that we are treating this incident incredibly seriously and are following all lines of enquiry. Officers are working hard to identify the suspect.”

The force is appealing to anyone who was in the area during the time of the attack or who may know the identity of the suspect to come forward.

West Mercia Police stated:

“Anyone with information is asked to contact us by email, quoting incident number 328i of 19 January 2026. Alternatively, information can be shared anonymously with the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Specialist officers continue to support the victim as the investigation progresses.
