Emergency services were called to the property late on Tuesday morning after two of the girl’s sisters reportedly ran to a neighbour’s house to seek help. The neighbour, described by residents as “traumatised”, raised the alarm and contacted police.
The girl, believed to be a pupil at the private Dragon School, was pronounced dead at the scene. Around 16 emergency vehicles, including police cars and ambulances, were seen outside the property, and an air ambulance landed in a nearby field.
Detectives from Thames Valley Police, supported by forensic teams, continued their investigation on Thursday. A police cordon remains in place as inquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Sally Spencer said the incident was “contained” and that there was no risk to the wider public. “We have launched a homicide investigation but are still in the early stages,” she said. “Our condolences go out to the family of the girl. We understand this will be deeply concerning for the community, but we do not believe there is any wider threat.”

Residents described the family as “a busy young family” who had been renting the property for less than a year. One neighbour said: “It’s just awful. The girls were so distressed when they ran for help. It’s a tragedy.”
Local councillors Gemma Coton, Alisa Russell, and Julian Nedelcu issued a joint statement offering support to the community. “This is heartbreaking news for the residents of the village, and our thoughts are with all those affected,” they said.
Police said the girl’s family are being supported by specially trained officers as the investigation continues.
