Sir David Beckham Receives Knighthood in Emotional Windsor Ceremony

Sir David Beckham has revealed that he had been “crying for months” after receiving his long awaited knighthood from King Charles at a ceremony held in Windsor Castle.

The 50 year old former England captain, affectionately nicknamed Goldenballs by his wife Victoria Beckham, was recognised for his outstanding contributions to sport and charitable work.

“It has been a very emotional day,” Beckham said, reflecting on the significance of the honour. The ceremony was attended by his wife and parents, while his children Romeo, Cruz and Harper celebrated alongside him.

Beckham, described as a modern knight and global icon, joked about how his children might address him: “I am not insisting if they would like to call me Sir Dad or Sir Son they can. But it is going to take some getting used to people saying it. It is just a huge honour.”

He described the moment as surreal, recalling his journey from growing up in Leytonstone East London, dreaming of playing professional football for Manchester United, to representing England on the international stage.

“To have my parents there today, to have my wife there to celebrate with my children, makes it a very emotional day. To receive such an important honour from His Majesty the King, one of the most elegant men and someone from the most respected institution in the world, it is surreal,” he said.

Beckham, who has been a UNICEF ambassador for 25 years, also emphasised the importance of his charity work. “All the charity work probably started when I was 15 years old in Manchester visiting young children in hospital. It has continued up until this day and will always continue because there will always be challenges with children,” he explained.

The footballer has personally donated millions to charity and organised fundraising initiatives, including a major project in May for UNICEF.

Sir David celebrated privately at Gordon Ramsay’s Michelin starred Chelsea restaurant, enjoying an intimate dinner with close friends and Champagne, although eldest son Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz were notably absent.

Sharing his joy on Instagram with his 89 million followers, Beckham wrote:
“From Ridgeway Rovers to Manchester United to Preston North End to Real Madrid to LA Galaxy to AC Milan to Paris Saint Germain and of course England with the best managers and team members and loyal fans who have helped me get where I am today, I am so thankful to them all. All I have ever wanted to do is to make my family proud.”

Victoria Beckham, who designed David’s grey mohair three piece suit for the occasion, expressed her pride:
“You have achieved so much and yet you are still the same kind, humble, hardworking man I met nearly 30 years ago, as well as the most amazing husband and father. I have never felt prouder than I do today.”

Beckham’s admiration for the royal family was also evident, recalling childhood visits to Horse Guards Parade and his personal friendship with King Charles, who personally oversaw the investiture ceremony.

Despite his fame, wealth, and achievements including 115 England caps, 19 major trophies, and a World Cup qualifying goal against Greece, Sir David remains deeply connected to his East London roots and the values instilled by his family.

Congratulations to Sir David Beckham on this long awaited and well deserved honour.
