Norfolk Man Arrested After Allegedly Setting Fire to Occupied Home

A man has been arrested in Norfolk after allegedly setting fire to a house while someone was inside, police confirmed on Monday.

Officers were called to a home near North Ninth Street and Koenigstein Avenue around 3:40 a.m. after reports of a blaze. By the time police arrived, the fire had mostly been extinguished by the resident, who had been asleep inside at the time.

A few hours later, investigators determined that the fire had been deliberately started.

Suspect Identified and Arrested

Surveillance footage captured a man carrying a petrol can and a firearm near the property. The suspect was later identified as 36 year old Devan Marshall of Norfolk after a neighbour recognised him from the video.

Marshall was arrested at his home and is facing charges of first degree arson, attempted first degree murder, and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
