The celestial event, which occurs every October, will see around 15 meteors an hour streaking across the heavens, offering stargazers one of the most beautiful displays of the year.
According to NASA, the Orionids are fragments of Halley’s Comet that enter Earth’s atmosphere, producing bright, fast-moving trails of light.
New research by Holgates, a UK holiday park group, found that the Norfolk Broads will offer some of the clearest and most scenic views of the meteor shower on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Stargazers can expect a viewing window of around three and a half hours, with several picturesque spots along the waterways ideal for sky-watching.
The Broads were listed alongside the Cairngorms and Loch Lomond and The Trossachs in Scotland as the best stargazing destinations this week.
Experts advise heading out between midnight and dawn, finding a dark location away from artificial light, and allowing 30 minutes for eyes to adjust to the darkness for the best experience.
