Man Who Stabbed Two Strangers in Unprovoked Tube Attack Sentenced to 11 Years

A man who carried out a “truly horrific and unprovoked” knife attack on two strangers at a London Tube station has been jailed for 11 years.

Nicholas Orlando Green unleashed a violent assault at Kennington Underground station on 27 March last year, leaving both victims with life-altering physical and psychological injuries.

The men, part of a group returning from a dance class, entered the station at about 10.30pm before splitting onto separate platforms. Minutes later, Green tapped into the station and made his way to the platform, where he launched a frenzied attack on a 44-year-old man.

The victim was repeatedly stabbed for around 20 seconds even after collapsing to the ground — while Green held the knife tightly in his right hand. A 42-year-old man ran over after hearing the screams, but was also stabbed multiple times and knocked to the floor.

Shocked members of the public intervened before Green fled towards the lift, where he assaulted a 31-year-old woman before leaving the station.

Both stab victims were rushed to hospital. The 44-year-old sustained multiple stab wounds to the chest and a fractured arm, while the second victim suffered 13 stab injuries.

British Transport Police identified Green using the bank card he tapped into the station with. He was arrested the following day at his Kennington flat, where officers found the same card, the shoes he wore during the attack, and a freshly washed jacket.

Green, 36, of Kennington Park Road, was convicted in September of two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a bladed article, and common assault.

Sentencing him on Thursday, 4 December, at Inner London Crown Court, BTP Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell said:
“This was a truly horrific and unprovoked attack that left two innocent men with life-altering physical and psychological injuries. Green has never offered any explanation for his torrent of violence.

“During police interviews he laughed, lied, argued and tried to frustrate our investigation, but our officers worked tirelessly to gather the evidence that helped the jury see through his deception and bring him to justice.

“I hope this sentencing brings some measure of reassurance to the victims and their families. We will stop at nothing to ensure violent offenders like Green are removed from our streets.”
