Man Sentenced for Raping Two Women After Luring Them to UK From Uganda

A man who lured two women from Uganda to the UK with false promises of work and housing before raping them has been jailed for 17 years.

Charles Isabirye, 48, was sentenced at Leicester Crown Court after being found guilty of a series of serious sexual offences, including four counts of rape, breach of a restraining order, and three counts of witness intimidation.

Leicestershire Police said Isabirye had promised both women jobs and a place to live when he brought them into the country, but those promises never materialised.

During his trial, Isabirye denied all charges and claimed the women had fabricated their allegations in collusion. The court rejected his claims after hearing harrowing evidence from both victims.

The first victim initially reported the assault to police in 2022 but felt unable to proceed at the time. When a second victim came forward in 2023, officers recontacted the first woman, who then provided a full statement.

Following a thorough investigation, Isabirye formerly of Loughborough  was convicted on all major counts. He will also be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, a restraining order banning contact with the victims, and will remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Detective Constable Sarah Le Boutillier, who led the investigation, praised the victims’ courage:

“I have nothing but praise for the victims in this case  not only for coming forward but for the bravery they showed throughout a lengthy and difficult trial.

“Isabirye sought to discredit them at every opportunity. While nothing can undo what they went through, I hope they find comfort in knowing he is now behind bars for a significant period.”

The court heard how Isabirye used deception and manipulation to exploit his victims’ trust, leaving them traumatised.

Police said the case highlights the importance of supporting victims of sexual violence and urged anyone affected by similar crimes to come forward.
