Driver of Anthony Joshua’s SUV May Face Prosecution After Deadly Crash

Anthony Joshua narrowly survived a devastating car crash on Monday that claimed the lives of his strength coach and personal trainer, according to reports from Nigerian authorities.

The accident occurred when Joshua’s Lexus SUV collided with a stationary lorry. Investigators from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) suggested the vehicle was traveling at excessive speed and had engaged in dangerous overtaking before a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control.

Sina Ghami, Joshua’s 36-year-old strength and conditioning coach, and Latif Ayodele, also 36 and known as Latz, his personal trainer, were killed instantly. The boxer, 36, sustained minor injuries. Both Joshua and the unnamed driver were rescued by convoy security personnel and taken to a hospital. Joshua was discharged on Wednesday and visited the funeral home where Ghami and Ayodele were being prepared for repatriation.

Ogun State’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency confirmed that overspeeding contributed to the crash. “In the course of that, the front tyre on the passenger side burst. That led to loss of control before the vehicle swerved and rammed into the stationary truck,” the agency said.

Authorities are reportedly considering prosecuting the SUV driver for dangerous or reckless driving causing death. The lorry driver involved in the crash fled the scene and is being sought by police.

The incident has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s sporting community, highlighting road safety concerns and raising questions about convoy protocols for high-profile athletes.
