Award-Nominated No 1 Cromer Announces Short-Term Closure for Maintenance

One of Britain’s most beloved fish and chip shops, No 1 Cromer, is set to close temporarily this November for essential maintenance and refurbishment works.

Located on New Street, the award-winning seaside restaurant announced that different sections of its premises will close on select dates throughout the month to allow for upgrades ahead of the busy festive season.

According to a notice shared on Instagram, Upstairs at No 1 will be closed from November 3 to 9, reopening on November 10. The takeaway section will not serve customers between November 3 and 7, reopening on November 8.

Following that, the downstairs restaurant will shut from November 10 to undergo refurbishment before reopening on November 15.

The post read:

“Please note that our restaurants and takeaway will be closed on selected dates this November for maintenance. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!”

The temporary closure comes as No 1 Cromer celebrates being shortlisted among the final five contenders for the Restaurant of the Year category at the National Fish and Chip Awards 2026,  the industry’s most prestigious honour.

Winners of the competition will be announced on February 25, with No 1 Cromer hoping to take home the top title in recognition of its quality, consistency, and iconic seaside dining experience.
