Arctic Blast Hits the UK: Temperatures to Plunge to -6C with Widespread Snowfall

The UK is set to experience an intense Arctic weather spell this November, with temperatures plunging to a bone-chilling -6C. Snowfall is expected across parts of the country from Saturday, 15 November, with conditions potentially persisting well into the festive period.

Weather projections from WX Charts, based on Met Desk data, indicate that Scotland, north-west England, and the Midlands will be most affected. The Scottish Highlands could see temperatures as low as -2C (28.4F), while regions including Cumbria and Snowdonia in Wales may experience lows of -5C to -6C by Monday, 17 November.

Forecasters warn that freezing conditions may continue until Wednesday, 19 November, before a brief rise to -3C by Friday, 21 November. Temperatures are then expected to drop again on Saturday, 22 November, marking the eighth consecutive day of the Arctic cold snap. According to advanced GFS modelling from the Met Desk, the UK could face 192 hours of sub-zero conditions during this period.

The Met Office forecast for 11–20 November states:

“The start of this period is likely to be largely unsettled and mostly mild, with bands or areas of rain moving across most parts of the UK, although tending to be focused more on western and possibly southern areas. Locally strong winds may accompany the rain at times. Some drier spells are also likely, particularly towards the east and north.”

“Where skies are clear and winds light overnight, frost and fog are expected, with fog slow to clear. From around mid-month, we may see a transition towards generally drier weather across the UK, likely bringing cooler temperatures overall and an increased risk of overnight frost.”

Residents are advised to prepare for freezing conditions, especially in northern and western regions, as the UK enters what could be one of the coldest spells of the season.
