Midlands Towns Braced for Major Snow Bomb as UK Weather Hits Hard

Snow Set to Blanket Britain as Temperatures Plunge Next Week

Britain is set to be hit by an Arctic blast over the coming days, bringing snow to large parts of the country, the Met Office has warned.

Weather maps show snow covering much of the UK on Wednesday, 28 January, with the wintry conditions expected to continue until Saturday.

Birmingham and the wider West Midlands could see up to three inches of snow on Wednesday, while Scotland is expected to bear the brunt of the Arctic conditions, with accumulations potentially reaching 25 inches. By Saturday, snowfall could intensify in the Midlands, with up to seven inches forecast.

Temperatures are also expected to plunge towards freezing next week, as the UK remains caught between Atlantic weather systems to the west and high pressure to the north and northeast. The Met Office said further spells of rain or showers are likely at times, particularly in the south and west, although drier periods are expected in the far north and northwest.

The cold spell follows the disruption caused by Storm Goretti, suggesting more unsettled and wintry weather for the country.

“Whilst mild conditions will encroach into the south and west at times, it is likely to turn colder through this period, bringing the risk of snow, particularly on hills in Scotland and northern England,” the Met Office forecast said.

Residents are advised to prepare for icy conditions, travel disruption, and heavier snow in affected areas over the next few days.
