Meghan Markle is expected to accompany her husband, Prince Harry, to the event if his UK police protection is reinstated. The Sun on Sunday reports that the duchess’s attendance would be contingent on a favourable security decision, with no confirmation yet on whether their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, would also travel.
Prince Harry lost his automatic right to armed police protection in the UK after stepping back as a working royal in 2020 and relocating to California. In May, the Duke of Sussex lost a High Court challenge seeking to overturn the government’s decision. However, his request for a full security risk assessment was approved last month.
Sources close to the duke are said to be hopeful that the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), which determines the level of police protection for high-profile individuals, will agree to reinstate armed security following the assessment.
The Invictus Games Foundation is holding a series of promotional events in Birmingham to mark the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games. Invitations have been sent to representatives of participating nations, making the summer event a significant milestone for the international sporting competition founded by Prince Harry for wounded and injured service personnel.

Meghan Markle, 44, has been a visible supporter of the Invictus Games in recent years. She joined Prince Harry at events in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, in 2024, and previously attended the one-year countdown ceremony in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 2022.
The duchess has not visited the UK since September 2022, when she attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Prince Archie, aged six, and Princess Lilibet, four, last visited Britain in June 2022 during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
A source previously dismissed suggestions that Meghan would not return to the UK, telling The Sunday Times that the Sussexes prefer to undertake philanthropic work as a family whenever possible and that there was no reason she would remain in the US if Prince Harry travelled with their children.
Prince Harry is due to be in the UK later this month for the next stage of his legal case against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of The Daily Mail and The Mail on Sunday, over allegations of phone-hacking and unlawful information-gathering, which the publisher denies.
He is not expected to meet King Charles during the visit, as the monarch will be in Scotland on his winter break. The duke is also scheduled to return to the UK later in the summer for the Invictus Games ceremony and the WellChild Awards in September.
