Norwich Murder Trial: Accused Soldier Makes Anti-Muslim Comments

A former soldier accused of murdering his neighbour described the victim in court as a “wrong ’un” who had “pushed his luck” and said society was “bowing down to Muslims,” a trial at Norwich Crown Court has heard.

Abdulkadar Chadli, 48, was found dead with a single stab wound to the chest at a property on Mousehold Street, Norwich, in November 2024. The defendant, Elvis Vickers, 48, denies murder, claiming the stabbing was in self-defence.

Police body-worn camera footage shown to the jury captured officers arriving at the scene, finding Mr Chadli on the bathroom floor and a five-inch knife, stained with blood, next to a television. Vickers, handcuffed at the time, can be heard telling officers, “I know I’m going down for murder,” while insisting the attack was in self-defence.

During the recording, Vickers referred to Chadli as a “wrong-un, like all them,” and said he “pushed his luck, didn’t he?” He also told police that society was “bowing down to the Muslims” and declared, “When I get released there will be more of them getting done.”

Prosecuting barrister Christopher Paxton KC described Vickers as “a man consumed with anger and hatred.” Police testimony indicated that Vickers “smelt of alcohol” and had “somewhat glazed” eyes when officers arrived.

The footage also showed the defendant asserting his military background, claiming he deserved “more respect” and stating, “I done more than he ever done. What you done?” He continued to insist, “I’m prepared to take the consequences” and reiterated his claim of self-defence.

The trial is ongoing.
