CCTV Exposes Chilling Nightclub Rapist Who Targeted Women in Fife

A Fife businessman has been jailed for nine years after CCTV revealed him prowling a nightclub looking for women to drug before carrying out what a judge described as “reprehensible” sexual attacks.

Kenan Baki, 46, sexually assaulted one woman and raped another after spiking their drinks at the Society nightclub in Kirkcaldy. The victims, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were left unconscious and defenceless during the assaults.

A jury at the High Court in Edinburgh viewed disturbing CCTV footage showing one of the women collapsing inside Baki’s barbershop after he took her there from the nightclub. The footage captured the victim losing consciousness in a chair as Baki touched her hair and used a hairdryer on her face. Moments later, he carried her into a back room, where he raped her while she was unconscious.

Judge Lord Cubie, sentencing Baki at the High Court in Kilmarnock, said the footage showed clear evidence of premeditation.

“You blew air on her face to check her level of unconsciousness and then chillingly carried her to another room to rape her,” he said. “This was not spontaneous but a planned, deliberate act to satisfy your sexual desires. Your conduct strikes fear into every woman who chooses to go out.”

Earlier that night, Baki had been seen slipping a drug into another woman’s drink at the same venue. CCTV showed her later collapsing before he sexually assaulted her by touching her body, pressing against her and kissing her head.

Detectives later built a case against Baki after carefully analysing multiple CCTV recordings. Lord Cubie commended the “careful and exhaustive police work” that helped identify his actions, noting that one victim had been unaware of what had happened to her until officers intervened.

Baki, of Kirkcaldy, denied all wrongdoing but was convicted of rape and sexual assault earlier this year. He will be supervised for two years after his release and placed on the sex offenders register for life.

Fiona Kirkby, Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offences, said:

“Kenan Baki poses a significant danger to women through his sexually depraved and predatory actions. This conviction sends a clear message to those who seek to harm others you will be held accountable. Victims will be supported and listened to by our trauma-informed staff as we pursue justice.”
