Fly-tipper fined after dumping piles of cardboard in Norwich

A fly-tipper has been fined after leaving piles of cardboard at communal bins following a house move.

Multiple boxes were dumped in Sleaford Green, Norwich, last week.

They had been left at a set of bins belonging to a block of flats at a different address from the one the perpetrator was moving to.

The cardboard was cleared within 24 hours, and the culprit paid the fine immediately.

Councillor Emma Hampton, Norwich City Council’s cabinet member for climate and environment, said:

“This incident is a clear example of why our Love Norwich strategy is so important. Fly-tipping is not only illegal but also unfair on neighbours and puts unnecessary pressure on council resources.

“We’re committed to keeping our neighbourhoods clean and safe and will continue to take enforcement action where necessary. The waste could have been easily recycled using the household’s own bins or taken to the recycling centre for free.”

Fines for fly-tipping typically start at around £150, but there is no upper limit on the amount that can be issued.
