The latest CQC inspection in July rated 8 Acres, which is part of the National Care Group, as Good in four key areas and Outstanding for being Caring. The success follows months of hard work by staff to enhance the quality of care and support for residents.
To mark the achievement, 18 trees have been planted within the grounds of 8 Acres, creating the Outstanding Orchard. Each tree has been dedicated to a supported resident. The trees were sourced locally from Toftwood Garden Centre, where staff provided expert advice on selecting the most suitable species for the environment.
The initiative forms part of the National Care Group’s environmental strategy and its long-term goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
The official opening of the Outstanding Orchard was celebrated at a co-produced community event involving residents, families, staff, and supporters. Guests gathered in the scenic grounds as Jamie, a resident of 8 Acres, proudly cut the ribbon alongside his mother, officially opening the orchard.
Residents also decorated the area with large letters spelling GOOD, featuring personal drawings and photographs showcasing everything they love about their home. A special video was screened, featuring residents singing and dancing alongside their carers to Queen’s hit “Don’t Stop Me Now”, adding a vibrant and joyful atmosphere to the occasion.

Rachael Marriott, Registered Manager at 8 Acres, who took up the role in March 2025, said:
“It was a privilege to celebrate our improved CQC rating alongside colleagues, the people we support, their families, and social care professionals. Opening the orchard made the day even more special. We are proud of what we have achieved, but our goal is to secure an overall ‘Outstanding’ rating in the next inspection.”
Karen Lewis, Chief Operating Officer of the National Care Group, praised the staff’s dedication:
“The team at 8 Acres has worked tirelessly to deliver a comprehensive action plan, transforming the quality of care and support provided. The Outstanding Orchard symbolises their commitment to excellence and the exceptional service they now deliver.”
With its upgraded CQC rating, environmental commitment, and strong community involvement, 8 Acres is setting a new benchmark for high-quality residential care in Norfolk.
