The incident occurred when the 6.55pm Greater Anglia service from Norwich to Sheringham hit a shopping trolley near Hoveton and Wroxham station on Monday evening. The impact caused the trolley to become wedged beneath the train, forcing a complete halt to all services on the line.
Trains between Norwich and Sheringham were suspended as engineers worked to remove the obstruction and assess the damage.
It was not until 9.42pm that Greater Anglia confirmed the line had reopened after the trolley was successfully freed from underneath the train. The affected train was later taken out of service for inspection.
A spokesperson for Greater Anglia said engineers acted swiftly to resolve the issue but warned that such incidents cause significant disruption and safety risks.
