Met Office Issues Weather Warning as Thunder, Showers Hit Today

The UK is bracing for thunderstorms and scattered showers today, though much of the country will still enjoy warm conditions, according to the Met Office.

Forecasters say showery rain is expected in several regions, particularly in the north where thunder may develop. Southern areas are likely to remain mostly dry, with only occasional showers, while temperatures could still reach a high of 29°C.

Following a sunny weekend where temperatures soared into the low 30s, Thames Water has announced a hosepipe ban starting next Tuesday. This will affect households in Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, most of Wiltshire, and parts of Berkshire, after the Environment Agency classified the region under prolonged dry weather conditions.

Brits Enjoy Final Days of the Heatwave

Across the country, residents took full advantage of the warm weather over the weekend. Beaches and parks were packed with sunseekers making the most of the clear skies and intense sunshine.

In Lyme Regis, Dorset, crowds gathered with parasols and picnic blankets, while in Hathersage, Peak District, children cooled off in outdoor pools. In Birmingham, residents were spotted splashing themselves in public fountains in an effort to escape the sweltering heat.

The heat even impacted the Wimbledon men’s final, where reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz faced world number one Jannik Sinner in soaring 29°C temperatures. Around 15,000 fans filled Centre Court, while another 25,000 watched from outside, enduring the intense sun to witness the thrilling showdown.

Heatwave Brings Disruption and Warnings

In Cannock, Staffordshire, residents are eager for cooler weather after reporting that a local road had started to melt in the heat. Locals on Gorsemoor Road complained that sticky tar had been clinging to car tyres and shoes.

Amber heat health alerts remained in effect throughout Sunday, with health officials urging people to stay in the shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly.

This marks the third major heatwave in the UK this year, prompting multiple hosepipe bans. Millions of residents in Yorkshire, Kent, and Sussex are now subject to water restrictions, with fines of up to £1,000 for non-compliance.
