PC Najeeb was responding to a single-vehicle collision on Station Road, Raunds, at around 12:30am on Friday, 19 September, when his patrol car was involved in a crash with a blue VW Polo. He was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where he later died.
Northamptonshire Police described him as “a true hero until the end” and confirmed that his collar number, P1967, would be retired in honour of his service, a tradition reserved for officers who lose their lives in the line of duty.
PC Najeeb, who previously served as a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) with Bedfordshire Police, was remembered by former colleagues as a selfless and dedicated officer.
“Those that knew him are absolutely devastated by his death, and he will be sorely missed,” Bedfordshire Police said in a statement. “Faizaan would do anything for anyone, and although he was only with us for a short time, his legacy and impact on those that worked with him remains.”
Colleagues also shared heartfelt tributes online. One wrote: “Fly high, Fuzz. A true hero until the end. My love and respect also goes out to all on Team 3, especially those in Wellingborough, who were on duty that night. Your professionalism and courage to respond to a colleague down was exemplary, and I’m sure Fuzz would be proud of your response.”
Another described him as “always a kind and funny person to be around and an amazing police officer. You’ll be missed by everyone.”
Investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
