British Woman, 23, Killed by Father in Texas After Argument Over Trump

A British woman, Lucy Harrison, 23, was fatally shot by her father at his Texas home following a dispute over former U.S. President Donald Trump, an inquest in Cheshire has heard.

Harrison, a fashion buyer from Warrington, Cheshire, died on January 10, 2025, the day before she was due to return to the UK with her boyfriend. Police reports stated she died from a gunshot wound to the heart, fired from medium range, but a grand jury determined that no criminal prosecution should follow.

The inquest heard that the argument with her father, Kris Harrison, escalated in the house he shared with his second wife and two young daughters. Harrison had expressed concerns about her father keeping a firearm in the home.

Her boyfriend, Sam Littler, told the court that the dispute involved Trump, who had recently received an unconditional discharge in a legal case. Harrison reportedly asked her father how he would feel if she were in a situation involving sexual assault. He allegedly responded that it would not affect him much as he had other daughters.

Shortly before she was due to leave for the airport, Kris Harrison led Lucy into a ground-floor bedroom, where a gun was discharged. Littler said he heard a loud bang, followed by Harrison screaming for his wife. Police bodycam footage later captured Kris Harrison claiming the firearm “went off” while being shown to his daughter.

Kris Harrison, an alcoholic who admitted consuming wine that morning, said in a written statement that the gun was bought for home defence and that he had no formal firearms training. He did not attend the inquest but expressed regret over the tragedy and vowed to honour Lucy’s memory by caring for his other daughters.

Lucy’s mother, Jane Coates, described her daughter as “a real force of life” who cared deeply about issues and enjoyed meaningful debates.

The inquest also saw a legal challenge from Harrison’s lawyers to recuse the coroner, citing possible bias, which was rejected. The inquest is scheduled to conclude on Thursday.
